More than 1.1 million citizens have registered within just 10 days for Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s newly launched relief initiative, “Maryam Ko Batain” (MKB), aimed at providing direct financial assistance to deserving families left out of the initial list of four million beneficiaries.
The programme was introduced to ensure that vulnerable households not previously covered under government support schemes could receive immediate financial relief in a transparent and dignified manner.
Registration Breakdown and Public Response
According to Chairperson 1000 Helpline and Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell Saima Farooq, registrations have shown overwhelming public response.
- 910,000 registrations were completed via the mobile application
- 140,000 citizens registered through the helpline
- 50,000 applications were submitted through the official web portal
- Average daily registrations exceeded 100,000
The helpline alone recorded 1.8 million call attempts within a single hour, highlighting strong public engagement and trust in the initiative.
Financial Assistance and Disbursement Process
Eligible applicants have already started receiving Rs10,000 directly into their JazzCash mobile wallets following verification and wealth filtering based on CNIC records.
Each applicant is issued a tracking ID to monitor their application status. Beneficiaries are notified through:
- SMS alerts
- Robo-calls
- Outbound verification calls
Once verification is complete and confirmation is received from JazzCash, recipients can collect their funds by presenting the confirmation message along with their original CNIC.
Officials emphasized that all transfers are made directly to beneficiaries without intermediaries, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the process.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants already benefiting from the following government programmes are not eligible for assistance under MKB:
- Ramazan Nigehban Programme
- Rashan Card Scheme
- Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP)
- Prime Minister’s Ramazan Relief Programme
The initiative specifically targets families not covered under these existing relief schemes.
Government’s Commitment to Economic Relief
Saima Farooq stated that the programme reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to extending economic support to vulnerable communities efficiently and respectfully.
By leveraging digital platforms, mobile wallets, and CNIC-based verification, the government aims to ensure that financial aid reaches the most deserving households quickly and without administrative delays.
Officials believe the strong public response demonstrates confidence in the programme and reinforces the province’s broader social protection efforts.
